While a flat plot can be leveled in a single day, a sloping plot in Brakel requires a completely different approach. The slope determines not only how the garden is laid out, but also how water moves during rain, where the foundation is subjected to the heaviest loads, and which zones require extra stabilization.
Our approach always begins with a thorough survey of the entire plot using laser equipment. We map out every difference in elevation and determine, together with you (or using our garden design as a guide), which levels will be created: a flat terrace area at the top, a lower garden zone, a gradually descending driveway, or a combination of all of these.
Next, our own machines start the earthmoving. The excavated soil is removed by us or reused on another part of the plot. In the Flemish Ardennes, we always try to respect the existing topography as much as possible, so that your garden does not look like a flattened industrial site but retains the natural charm of the ridge.
On plots with significant differences in elevation, and there are many of those in Brakel, the installation of retaining walls or L-profiles is often necessary. These concrete elements compensate for the difference in level between two zones (for example, the driveway and the garden, or the garden and the adjacent plot) and prevent the soil from sliding or subsiding over time.
Stones & Green installs both precast concrete L-panels and custom-made cast retaining walls. The choice depends on the height of the level difference, the load (is there traffic over the upper zone?), and the desired finish. L-profiles can subsequently be clad with natural stone or covered with climbing plants, so that they visually blend into your garden.
For every retaining wall project, we provide the correct drainage behind the wall. Without this drainage layer, accumulating water would exert pressure on the wall and eventually cause instability, a mistake we unfortunately see regularly in work carried out by non-specialized contractors.
Water always seeks the lowest point. In a hilly garden in Brakel, this means in concrete terms: if the drainage is not installed correctly, rainwater flows to the lowest zone with every shower, turning your beautifully landscaped terrace or lawn into a mud puddle.
Stones & Green installs drainage systems that collect water at strategic points and drain it into the sewer system, a rainwater sump, or an infiltration basin. This drainage is integrated into the earthworks before the foundation and paving are laid. This way, you avoid problems that would be much more expensive and disruptive to resolve later.
Are you also considering a structurally built swimming pool in Brakel? On a demolition plot, the correct positioning and drainage of the pool are especially important. We would be happy to review this with you during the site visit.
At Stones & Green, we carry out all earthworks in Brakel and the Flemish Ardennes using our own extensive fleet of machinery. Mini excavators for tight gardens, crawler excavators for heavy excavation, vibratory rollers for compaction, and laser equipment for millimeter-precise leveling. This means no waiting days for external machines, no additional rental costs, and a tight schedule that we effectively adhere to.
Managing Director Steven Geerts personally coordinates every project and remains your dedicated point of contact from the initial site visit to completion.
